Introducing Our Black Women in Nursing Photoshoot

As we conclude our Black History Month series for 2025, we wanted to create a powerful, culminating photoshoot that honors the pillars of our community. This shoot highlights the incredible Black women in healthcare—trailblazers who are breaking barriers and uplifting those around them.

Despite making up just 11.4% of U.S. registered nurses—a statistic that has remained unchanged since 2003—Black women in nursing are making a difference every day. Here at Kent State, these women are redefining that narrative, using their skills, compassion, and determination to expand representation and advocate for communities of color in healthcare.

It is with great pride that we present our Black Women in Nursing Photoshoot, featuring Malia Anderson, Shanetta Bryan, Zion Hairston, Jovine-Gonzalez Freeman, Armani Hall, and Quren Jarvis. Their ambition, resilience, and unwavering dedication deserve to be celebrated.
Give these women their flowers, and Happy Black History Month!
